Ken-Ton sets dates for 2016 UPK, kindergarten, registration

Registration for kindergarten and Universal Prekindergarten in the Ken-Ton School District will begin in January.

Registration for all students is by appointment only at the central registration office, 1500 Colvin Blvd., Tonawanda. Parents may call the office at 871-2090 to make an appointment to register for kindergarten and/or Universal Prekindergarten programs.

Dates for kindergarten registration only:

• Jan. 11-15: Holmes Elementary School and Hoover Elementary School

• Jan. 19-22: Franklin Elementary School and Lindbergh Elementary School. Jan. 18 is a holiday, and central registration will be closed on this date.

• Jan. 25-29: Edison Elementary School

Dates for Universal Prekindergarten Registration only:

• Feb. 1-5: Universal Prekindergarten (all schools)

Appointments will be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and extended hours will be offered from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: Jan. 13, 20 and 27 and Feb. 3.

To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2016.

To be eligible for Universal Pre-K, children must be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2016. A child cannot turn 5 years old from Dec. 2, 2015, through and including Dec. 1, 2016, to be eligible for Universal Pre-K.

Registration packets will be mailed to current eligible residents.

At the time of registration, parents should have with them their completed registration packet, their child’s original birth certificate or baptismal certificate, and two current proofs of the parent’s residence.

Parents who expect to register a child in a nonpublic school for kindergarten should notify the central registration office at 871-2090 of their intent so that all eligible children can be accounted for.
