Kids Escaping Drugs offers help

As a board member of Kids Escaping Drugs, the adolescent education and treatment arm of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services Foundation of WNY, I was happy to see the supplement to The Bee exposing the world of alcohol and drug addiction and the problems that arise from it.

There was mention of agencies/ resources where one can go to find help. However, Kids Escaping Drugs and its Renaissance House campus were not mentioned. Hundreds of kids ages 12-21 have been served by this facility in the last 25 years, and hundreds have conquered and continue to conquer their demon of addiction.

Our 62-bed residential treatment facility has given these adolescents a second chance on life. Our 5-year-old Face 2 Face program has been involved in going to middle and high schools throughout Western New York educating students and parents of the perils of alcohol and drug use.

We have an annual summit that furthers this education to more than 500 kids each spring. We are so very fortunate to have this facility in our own backyard. Prescription drug abuse is an epidemic here as well as throughout the country. KED works to save the lives of our very own children. I have personally seen many Clarence kids as clients on our campus; no one is exempt from this problem. We are a resource for help. If you need help or guidance, please call our campus at 827-9462.
